My Philosphy

Growing up, I loved the story of Polyanna, that eternal optimist who could find the bright side of any situation.  I wanted to be just like her and life was good.

Then our son hit his teen years and the Conduct Disorder hit him and us.  Hard.  Despite all the interventions that we and the juvenile court system threw at him, by the time he was an adult, he was a full-fledged, card-carrying sociopath.

Now longer am I an eternal optimist.  Now, for our protection, where he and his kind are concerned, I am a realist.

However, as Martha Washington said:

"I am still determined to be cheerful and happy, in whatever situation I may be; for I have also learned from experience that the greater part of our happiness or misery depends upon our dispositions, and not upon our circumstances."

While I wouldn't re-live those years for anything, I am forever grateful for the things that I learned and for the opportunity to share that knowledge with others for their benefit.
